Unconventional Relationships in Midlife
Thursday Sep 28, 2023
Thursday Sep 28, 2023
A few months back I came across a series of articles talking about the differences between what men and women want in relationships later in life. Women are apparently less likely to want to get married or cohabitate and for men it’s the opposite. It peaked my interest and I wondered why, and what that meant for relationships as we age.
So this week on the podcast my guest Barb Beck, an expert relationship and life coach, and I dive into why women are choosing unconventional relationships dynamics. There are lots of great reasons for “together but apart” relationships and also a number of considerations. No matter where you are in your relationship status this conversation shares some great relationship insights for all of us.

Friday Sep 22, 2023
Friday Sep 22, 2023
Todays episode is a truly inspiring conversation about conquering seemingly impossible physical challenges no matter how hold you are.
My guest is Dierdre Wolownick, a accomplished musician, linguist, inspirational speaker and author, who also happens to the be mother of Alex Honold, featured in the documentary Free Solo for his death defying rock climbing without using ropes. Dierdre started running marathons at 55, started rock climbing at 58 and at the age of 66 conquered the 3,000-foot-high rock face, El Capitan, in Yosemite National park. Not only did she accomplish this incredible feat she did it in record time.
Dierdre and I chat about her climbing journey and what it takes mentality and physically to accomplish such an incredible physical challenge. We discuss the role of courage, not being afraid to learn, how to manage the unknown an so much more. What I loved bout this conversation is that the tips and strategies that Dierdre shares are so relevant and applicable to just about any ‘out of your comfort zone’ pursuit.
I don’t see scaling rock faces anywhere in my near future but I walked away from this conversation with so many great insights and lessons that I will be applying to many things in my own life. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much I did.

Being bold and taking risks in midlife - I love this topic because it goes against the conventional narrative of slowing down and becoming risk averse with age.
Todays guest has thrown that idea right out of the window. After a very successful career in the fashion industry, dressing A list celebrities, Diane Gilman, “The Queen of Jeans” , reinvented her life and business to create a $100 million dollar jean brand at the age of 60. At 77, after bout with cancer she has reinvented herself yet again to become an author, podcast host and social media beauty influencer for older women.
She shares her inspiring story of persevering through adversity and taking bold action to keep reinventing herself and creating a life she loves. One of the best pieces of advice that Diane shares, that I absolutely love, is getting to know who you are and what’s important to you because when you follow your heart you can never go wrong.
This is such an inspiring episode. I’ve listened to it a few times. Diane is a true legend who is paving the way for all of us in taking bold action towards the life we want.

In todays episode we are talking about living vivaciously at any age with my guest Ruth Yunker, a writer and humorist who is chasing her life long dream to become a model at the age of 73. Her latest book, "Baby, I'm the Boss of Me. My Journey to Ageless" is a funny and insightful read about how not to let age stop you from fully living your life.
We chat about learning to honour your desires, how we so often get in our own way, stepping out of your comfort zone, personal bravery and the importance of taking imperfect first steps. Ruth shares all her strategies for living agelessly as well her unique definition of wisdom.
This is a high energy and entertaining conversation that is sure to leave you inspired and ready to live full out no matter how old you are.
About Ruth:
I'm a writer and humorist. I'm 73, and am amazed and relieved, to find life is just as exciting as ever! I've published three books. Two on surviving Paris solo. The third is "Baby, I'm the Boss of Me My Journey to Ageless". I have lived all over, ever since childhood, and as a result, I consider myself an amateur sociologist! I'm a yogini, a mother, and a photographer. I recently challenged myself to start modeling, which is something I wanted to do as a teenager. It's turning into a stimulating and scary journey. I'm definitely way outside my comfort zone, but am reminded that I talk about personal bravery constantly...so here is my opportunity to put my money where my mouth is!
